GUIDELINES FROM YOUR AFS MOCK
NID TEST EXAMINER (EX-NIDian) |
Points to remember in the first written exam (Phase I of NID admission procedure) -
1. This exam is primarily to separate exceptionally skilled students from the averagely skilled/ unskilled (in drawing, sketching etc.) ones. All the drawings made by students in this paper should reflect their talent clearly. The line quality, strokes, proportion in figures, sense of perspective etc. exhibit the skills of the student in question.
2. In questions that ask for definitions, refrain from providing factually incorrect information (especially science related terms) but slight grammatical errors are acceptable. (Factually incorrect information shows ignorance/ lack of knowledge whereas grammatical errors simply mean weak English.)
3. If the question asks for an illustration, give just that. DO NOT write subtitles unless asked or scribble words in the drawing to explain it. Using words in this way indicates lack of visualization skills.
4. Try to understand if the question requires one or two words answer or full sentences. Write complete sentences in questions that ask for a pointwise answer. Points should never be written in incomplete/ half sentences as the complete answer cannot be left to the examiner's imagination.
5. In questions where you have to redraw a given object, refer to the box with the original drawing of the object and redraw in that scale.
6. In questions where you are asked to draw color pallettes, never miss out on ESSENTIAL COLORS. e.g. Christman color pallette is incomplete and senseless without white and red, Magic color pallette is incomplete without the inclusion of black (90 % of magic tricks use the color black because it helps in camouflaging easily)
7. Read the questions carefully. Many single sentence questions are structured in such a way that they include more than one question/ point to be kept in mind. Answer every part carefully.
8. In objective questions, tick the most appropriate answer only and put the tick in an appropriate way - ticking in too many boxes renders the answer as INVALID.
9. In questions that ask for detailed illustrations, detail the right part and the right object of the illustration - avoid giving unnecessary details in perspective. Always keep in mind the relative proportion amongst objects in a given scenario.
10. NID is a design college, so even if a student's ALL answers in General Knowledge section are correct but the illustrations skills are poor/average/so so/good but not great, he/she will be left out. Once again, this paper largely concentrates on filtering students who have the best skill sets from those who have lesser or no skills. |
