STATUS OF THE INDIAN FASHION INDUSTRY

The Indian Fashion & Luxury goods industry is booming! The Textile Ministry in it’s VISION -2010 has envisaged that Indian garment exports will reach a figure of $ 50 billion by 2010, generating over 12 million jobs -a target set by no other sector! The domestic Indian Textile market is worth $25 billion today and growing at an annual rate of 15-20%.Mega Malls are mushrooming all over. MNC Fashion & Lifestyle goods brands like Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Swarovski, Cartier, Tiffany, Omega ,Mont Blanc are already here. More like, Ferragano, Versace, Gucci, Valentino, Prada and Fendi are coming. The Retail sector is witnessing a virtual explosion with the Ambanis, Mittals, Birlas and now, the Tatas making a foray in this sector. As per industry estimates, the Fashion & Luxury goods market will exceed Rs. 1,000 crore by 2010 and require thousands of trained professionals in the fields of design, management, communication and technology.

The field of Design encompasses all kinds of Consumer products, including Furniture, Interiors, Lifestyle Accessories, Jewellery, Toys, Ceramics as well as all modes of Advertising, Communication & Entertainment, including Graphics for /Publishing, Packaging, Exhibition, Film & Videoand Animation.

The Indian Animation industry is the new sunrise sector, having grown by 35% in the last fiscal and expected to be worth $950 million by the year, 2009.There is already a shortage of skilled animators for Ad. films ,Indian animation films like Hanuman and various off-shore animation as well as Gaming projects.

And, the real hot news is in the field of fine Art.As per an India-Today magazine report,The annual Art market has shot up from a mere Rs.8-10 crore to Rs. 2000 crore in 2005. Major auction houses like Christie’s and Sotheby are now seeking works of contemporary Indian artists.Each painting of artists like Tyeb Mehta, M.F.Hussain, Gaitonde, Raza, J.Swaminathan, Souza’s valued in crores.
